Jawahar navodaya Vidyalaya Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNVs) are a unique educational initiative launched by the Government of India to provide quality education to talented students from rural and remote areas. Established in 1986, these residential schools offer free education to students from Class VI to XII and are spread across various states in India. The objective of setting up JNVs was to provide quality education to children who come from economically and socially disadvantaged backgrounds. These schools provide a level playing field to students who would otherwise not have access to quality education due to various socio-economic factors. JNVs follow the CBSE curriculum and the medium of instruction is either English or Hindi. The schools also offer three languages in addition to English and Hindi, namely, the mother tongue of the student, a regional language and a third language.
